The benefits of Massage during Pregnancy.

If there's ever a more important time to up level your self care regime, it's when you are expecting. Pregnancy can be tough for some, and nurturing your body and mental health takes on a whole new meaning. It's crucial to invest in yourself during this time as your body changes and grows and your mindset adapts to your new role, it's really about leaning in and listening to what our bodies need during this time of transition.

Pregnancy Massage can be hugely beneficial for any mamma to be, and is a helpful tool to incorporate into your pregnancy routine to help you feel the best you can be. I work with many pregnant ladies, many who choose to continue treatments after baby is born to help keep their minds and muscles nurtured as they juggle the demand of motherhood. After going through my own pregnancies (one very difficult twin pregnancy!) it's amazing to now be able to draw on my own experiences to give expectant and new mothers what they really need.

If you are currently pregnant and feel you need to up level your self care, here are my top reputed benefits of pregnancy massage:

Stress Reduction & Time for You!

Pregnancy massage has been shown to reduce the production of stress hormones and aid in the production of our happy hormones, helping you deal with any anxieties you may be feeling. The more relaxed you feel in your body, the increased bonding you should feel with your baby. Massage is also beneficial at promoting effectiveness your lymphatic system by increasing blood flow, to help release toxins through improved detoxification.

Especially if you are still working, or have other children - attending a pregnancy massage once a month throughout your pregnancy can give you some much needed quiet moments during this time, you can lean in to how you may be feeling and allow yourself to fully relax.

Ease and soothe those achy muscles!

As your body stretches and your baby grows, you may feel extra pressure on your back – particularly in the lumbar region. Focus and attention is brought to this area in a gentle and mindful approach to help ease any aches and pains you may be experiencing. The upper neck and shoulder areas can accumulate tension from different sitting positions and even stress. Calves and feet can also take the pressure as you grow. A full consultation will be carried out prior to your treatment to gain an understanding of which areas you feel need the most attention, and to ensure the treatment is completely bespoke to what you need at the time.

It can help reduce swelling.

Swollen legs and feet are incredible common during pregnancy, in fact its not uncommon for certain footwear to become unwearable until you give birth. So how can massage help with this? Massage can help stimulate the soft tissues which helps to lower the fluid collection in swollen joints. It also aids in effective detoxification and waste removal of the lymph system. By helping blood flow this can be an effective part in reducing the chances also of varicose veins and blood clots, also improving the removal of waste products carried by the lymph system.

Pssstt....

Improve precious sleep!

Not only is pregnancy massage so wonderfully calming and grounding - putting you in a calmer state, it can be a useful tool in helping with improved sleep. Sleep can be very tricky whilst pregnant, especially in the last trimester. The boost of feel good hormones that are produced during massage are essential for good sleep quality. Massage directly influences the body’s production of serotonin, the hormone that helps relieve pain. Serotonin is integral in producing melatonin - a hormone that tells us when it’s time to sleep.
